Turn off autoplay on Facebook

In September 2025 Facebook converted every video on the platform into a Reel. That much is Facebook's own account of what it did. What comes next is not: users report that Never Autoplay Videos leaves Reels playing on their own anyway, and Facebook has never said one way or the other. One commenter, in a thread of people asking exactly this, wrote that Reels only stopped once they had turned autoplay off in three separate places: the browser, the main Android app, and Facebook Lite. That is a single account and Facebook has not confirmed it. Useful to know about, not a procedure to follow.
The second trap is the shape of the control. Autoplay offers On Mobile Data and Wi-Fi, On Wi-Fi Only, and Never Autoplay Videos.
