Show or hide your online status in Facebook on Android

Your active status tells people in Facebook and Messenger when you’re online.

When it’s on, people see a green dot while you’re online. When it’s off, they don’t see it.

Turn Show when you’re active on or off

You can turn on Show when you’re active so people know when you’re online, or turn it off so they don’t.

  1. Go to the Facebook app on your phone.
  2. Tap the Menu button, then tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Under Audience and visibility, tap Active Status.
  5. Turn Show when you’re active on or off.

Note: Your active status shows in Facebook and in Messenger. Facebook warns that with it off, you may keep showing as active in the other app.
